The
Teachers’ Guide to Ear Training
|
|
|
This book and CD package focuses on giving
teachers strategies, techniques and exercises
for teaching beginner ear training to their
year 9-11 students. Rather than just being
a resource with lots of testing exercises (like
the ‘Ultimate Classroom Workbook’ series)
this resource includes a method of teaching
ear training to beginners.
Through a combination of learning about intervals,
melodies and chord progressions students will
quickly develop well-rounded and proficient
musical recognition skills
This book and CD contains over 100 musical
examples for developing your students’ ear
training skills. Exercises can be either, teacher
directed,
student directed or peer-to-peer directed (co-operative
learning). You, the teacher, will be able to
monitor your students’ progress through
a series of student self-evaluation exercises
so you will know exactly how quickly to move
on to new and more challenging exercises.
Also included is an end of course exam similar
to what students will encounter in external
national assessments.

Here
is the ultimate resource for teachers of
NCEA 1.4 (aural).
| • |
There
are over 170 pages of aural examples
including 75 Melodic dictation,
28 General Perception and 40 Chord
Recognition examples played by
Violin, Cello, Oboe, Clarinet,
Flute, Trombone, Trumpet, Guitar,
Bass Guitar and Piano. They are
in the form of question and answer
sections with the accompanying
audio on CD. All questions have
been set out in the format which
is used for the NZQA external exams.
|
| • |
In each section the questions
start at a low level of difficulty
building up to excellence level of
difficulty. For example, the melodic
dictation questions start out with
all melodies using minim (or half-note)
and crotchet (or quarter-note) rhythms
with step-wise melodic figures. The
examples steadily increase in difficulty
employing quaver (or 1/8 note) rhythms
and intervals of 3rds, 4ths & 5ths,
6ths and octaves and the time signatures
of 3/4 and 6/8.
|
| • |
I
am convinced that this resource
combined with good teaching will
enable any motivated student to
gain achievement with excellence
in the NCEA 1.4 external exam.
